About a month ago, I called Tivo to cancel my service. I turned off the cable nearly a year ago and it was time to stop paying $20 a month for TiVos that were disconnected and stacked in a closet.
But the technical support person had such a cute voice. And she said, “Linda, you’ve had TiVo since 1999! Are you sure you want to disconnect it? Do you know about TiVo HD?”
I’m not sure what happened, but the TiVo HD arrived a few days later. I didn’t get around to connecting it until last week. Did you know that you can watch YouTube videos on TiVo now? Which means I can sit on my couch and watch Chip’s “This Week in Public Comment!”

Authorities say there are a number of ways to remember when a small child is in the backseat:
– Keep a stuffed animal in the car seat and place it in the front seat as a reminder whenever the child is in back.
– Always place something in the backseat, such as a purse, lunch bag or windshield sunshade, that requires you to open the back door every time you park.
– Ask your child-care provider to call you or other emergency contacts promptly if the child does not arrive by the normal time.
Parents who forget their kid in the backseat: a history.
Sometimes I say her name out loud, just to hear it again. I heard it so often, for so long.
